Artist Statement

The unknown has always attracted me — that state of beyond the ordinary, on the edge of human perception. I feel this when I lie on the surface of the water. Ethereality takes me to a meditative state where my mind becomes like the ocean: sometimes anxious and raging, sometimes calm and serene, but always boundless.

In my works I always try to show that reality is ambivalent, that it always obscures the dialogue between the visible and the invisible, the conscious and the subconscious. Secret, unspoken motifs arise when I feel most isolated, vulnerable, lost, unrecognized, but also transformed and fulfilled.

The idea of fluidity has expression on a subconscious level as well as in physical form. I strive to create a gallery of mirrors where different people are reflected — merging, opening up, and transforming. Only through change can we understand ourselves. Being human is a process, sometimes a project — the constant transition from one state to another.

I typically use toning and RGB lighting techniques in my work. Color helps to emphasize duality and reflects the boundary between dream and reality. Disharmony and contrasting combinations compel us to look into the abyss of our inner world. There, tracing the lingering state of half-sleep, we enter the realm of In-Between, where boundaries become increasingly blurred.

For expressiveness, I use mixed media techniques: collage and diary notes. They help me experiment, make the outcome less predictable, and allow new meanings to emerge in unexpected ways. However, there is also another visual approach that I like to use because of its dual nature — the diptych. Its images, intertwined, form a bridge between two worlds — tangible and intangible — revealing the non-obvious connections and interpretations.

For me, creativity is the guide to the world of emotional liberation, rethinking and renewal. It is our constant source of self-discovery. Art can take us beyond our everyday lives into the liminal space where anything becomes possible.

On this journey we face our fears and doubts. Like undercurrents, they can take us down into the depths and sweep away our old beliefs and perceptions of ourselves. As we dive into the dark waters, we encounter the very part of ourselves that we are trying to eliminate. But in this effort we risk losing the very essence of our identity — our shadow is not something alien and hostile, but an integral part of ourselves. It holds not only our fears, weaknesses, and mistakes, but also our strengths, our potential for growth and renewal. It is in this uncertainty that true transformation is possible.

Once we stop hiding behind false masks, we realize that our strength lies in our vulnerability, our beauty — in our imperfections, our integrity — in our diversity.

For me, duality is not just a philosophical concept but the very essence of life.
